1st Fridayz(tm) on November 2nd was a networking hit and fun too!
Posted by Teresa | Under Writing Lessons Sunday Nov 4, 2007On Friday, November 2nd, I attended the 1st Fridayz(tm) event hosted by The WECAI Network. The theme again was Blogging for Business. This has been the third time for this theme and you might think…gee weez…why are you having the same theme SO many times. Well, the simple answer to that is …people
are so interested in the topic and there is always more questions about the subject…why not continue the theme. (I know and you know, I am the showcase chair for 1st Fridayz so of course, I would be there–however, I want to tell you why I enjoyed it so much. And why you should be sure to come to the next one in January 2008!)
This time Heidi and I decided to do things a little differently and not have the email networking piece and let the networking be a bit more casual. Well, I have to tell you–it went on and the more casual environment worked really terrifically.
The festivities began at 1pm and we did a bit of light networking at first because our first interview was until 1:30…so we opened the floor to anyone in the room to allow them to showcase their blog.
Then, it was time for our first showcase at 1:15pm and it was Katherine Reschke, the passion coach who helps others find the life passions and helps them monetize those life passions. She showed us her new blog/website for Passions That Pay, a site where she displays the 10 top reasons to know if you are not working your life passion. Katherine was gracious in asking for advice about how she could make the blog better. Thank you Katherine for being our 1st showcaser of the day.
At 1:30pm, Heidi interviewed Sally Falkow, a blogging, RSS and social media strategist. Sally’s blog, Falkow,Inc. showcases her expertise in this field and she was such a joy to listen to as she talked about how blogging can help in our businesses…as long as we do it correctly. One of the things that I enjoyed was she talked about how blogging has begun to open the doors for us “everyday” people to be able to reach the “big dogs” of the corporate and internet realm such as Doug Hay.
Next, I believe Heidi called up someone to be in the “hot seat” to showcase their blog and Catherine Franz jumped up to the plate this time. Now, Catherine has been on the internet and blogging since 2002…a seasoned blogger in most of the attendees’ eyes. Catherine, owner of the abundance center, is a life and business coach showed us her blog, Out of the Blog, Into the Light. I know for me it was great to know more about Catherine as she conveys such great uplifting energy…yes, even across the internet.
Well, Tonya Ramsey, showcased her blog,Journey to Self Radio Show. I have been a guest on Tonya’s show and let me tell you, she is very passionate about this show and she enjoys talking with people about their journey and she does it through her self esteem coaching with her clients in her business, Life by Design.
Next, it was time for our next interview at 3pm and the guest speaker was Tammy Munson to talk about blogging for business and using new media with blogging. Tammy has a “love” for tech gadgets so it is only fitting for her to focus on such business technology such as podcasting, audio and video with her business and help her clients in this way in their business. Tammy answered the attendees questions about podcasting and audio production to help with business. She showcased her blog, New Media VA Blog. Tammy was told us about the upcoming Work at Home Expo (it is FREE to attend) on November, 13th-November 15th. This event is a great casual way to network and meet other like minded business owners. And there are speakers too –meaning a great business learning experience.
Networking+Learning=More business growth!
Next, Heidi showcased a few of her blogs -Virtual Women’s Blog and Heidi Richards
As always, Heidi provides her members, business associates, and friends with valuable information so she told us about how and why she started blogging. I encourage you to take a look at her blog, Virtual Woman’s Day, because it is full of some great information.

Well, then after Heidi….It was called another Hot Seat….so I figured it was my turn. And I jumped into the ring. I showcased this blog. I talked about what drove me to be a part of the internet. (My hubby and I started working together in his floor cleaning/restoration businessMorr Services, Inc. and I thought by getting more involved on the internet, it would help our business.
I also chatted about the newest post that was up here at the time and that was about Black Friday Bash on November 23rd.
