Finding your way or your focus in the entreprenuerial world
This is one of those topics that most entrepreneurs *think* they know the answer to until they get more into their business and then they are *hit* will uncertainty and confusion about where to go and how to get there. Here are some questions:
1. What do you like to do? For me, it was administrative “things” more specifically tasks such as completing Power Point presentations and creating newsletters, blogs and writing (whether it was blogging, co-writing or freelance). I also really enjoy meeting and connecting like people together.
2. Why do you enjoy doing these certain things? For me, I thought about this and it was because they allow me to be more creative. I am able to place text and images in different places along with changing colors and aspects of the look. (this is why I am a virtual assistant). Also, I am a people person and enjoy meeting others. I enjoy helping them, so I wanted to be able to connect business people to assist them with connecting with each other (this is why I help other business owners with online publicity).
3. Is this something that you would enjoy in order to make money? For me that answer was an easy yes. Although for you, you may find out that some tasks you like doing but you don’t think you would enjoy them if it became something that you had to do in order to receive payment.
4. What are the tasks that you really do not like to do? This is really important because a lot of times the things that we don’t like to do, are the very things that can keep us from our focus and getting down the path to where we want to go. The reasoning for this is because we don’t want to do this things so we end up procrastinating, however, this *thing* that we don’t want to do is creating a wall so we can not move forward to develop our vision.
For me, sometimes I have run into a roadblock, however, I can quickly remedy this doing one of two things:
- Put a timer (you can buy a kitchen timer for about $10) on 20 to 30 minutes and sitting down and doing those things they I need to do. If you do this each day, then these tasks will get done.
- Outsource these items and allow my time to be spent doing those things I would like to focus on in my business.
5. What shall my website look like in order to convey my focus and showcase my brand
One of my mentors and friends, Ponn Sabra talks about internet branding for your business and is the expert on this subject.
Recently she wrote a post entitled “Looking of your name brand?” about internet branding and offered up questions to help others to clear up their own brand.
6. Where do I go in order to find inspiration and empowerment in order to help me move forward?
- The first and easiest answer for this question is your family and friends. Ask them questions like, “I am thinking about doing this (whatever it may be) and see how the conversation develops. What do you find yourself talking about more or what is the questions that are brought up that concern you that you didn’t really want to talk about.
- Networking Groups - Google and see what groups are available in the industry that you are interested in. Or even better yet, check and see where you think your customers may be interested in being a part of. Join and attend the chat sessions. Sit back and just listen. Don’t comment at first too much. Just see what types of questions come up and see if these are questions that you are interested in answering and able to resolve for the attendees in the room.
So, next time you find yourself confused about what to do next, just take some time to redefine what you like to do (your strengths), what you do not like to do (your weaknesses), and what you find yourself talking about or other are talking about with you. It will come together, give yourself time, and if you run into issues, call me and I will be more than willing to help in anyway I can to get you to the next step. Hey, if I take away the administrative tasks or at least help with some aspects, if can free up your time.
But really, if you just need someone to talk to help you get back “on the road” and brainstorm, I am here.

Very thoughtful questions and answers you shared Teresa!
Congrats on finding an industry which allows you to enjoy and make money with what you enjoy most.
Since I pushed the other contestants *hard* with their posts, here’s my “free” consulting below to brand you a bit more!
So, more on the “Internet Brand-Name-Blog” questions:
- What’s Your Brand Name? Key Business PartnerS or Teresa?
- What are you promoting or “branding” specifically? Your love for writing, creating and connecting people? So, how do you plan to forge forward with this “Brand” ?
One recommendation would be always talking Me to You==My “Key” Business “Partner”.
Assume you are talking to one single targeted specific (”key”) business Partner!
- Blogging is critical–and you have a *Great* Start in defining your areas of expertise, so another recommendation:
Offer other means for “Me” your Key-Biz-Partner to review your “Services page” and stating that this is only-One-post-example of my areas of expertise.
Because I leave this post thinking, you *only* offer PowerPoint (btw–add a link to your post series in here), ezine newsletter, and “connecting” people. And, you’re open to “brainstorming”, which is a wonderful Welcome.
One last critical recommendation:
Write more to “me” or use “you” and not “I” so much! You *can* show your expertise passionately by telling “us” to do “this” and “that”

Teresa, thanks for the tips. I have been blogging since June 1, 2007. I read a lot of blogs of different topics to meet new friends and to get inspiration about a future possible article. I had not thought to Google my niche to see who all is out there. Will do it now. Thanks.
Thanks Ponn and Patricia for your feedback.
Ponn, thanks as always for your “pushing” me forward to get better and better at what I do.
Patricia,
I am happy to help and how it helps. I hope you will continue to come back to my blog as I am going to come by your website as well.
Thank you both again!
Teresa
